Charming restored town house
The house featured in these pages is truly unique, both for its construction, location, and decor. Its owner, American actor and electronic music producer Marco Dollenz, after living for several years in the province of Cádiz, chose the town of Conil as his home.
The house is located in the fishermen's quarter. After acquiring the property, he renovated the entire interior, transforming it into a welcoming two-story home. It occupies 75 square meters, distributed among an entrance hall, a living room, a kitchen, a bedroom, a bathroom, and, taking advantage of the high ceilings, two mezzanine levels used as guest areas.
The entire house is defined by the oyster stone used for the walls, which the owner sourced from various demolition sites, along with the hydraulic tile flooring and doors, creating a magical atmosphere.
For the entrance hall floor, he used Tarifa flagstone, which he acquired from a demolition site, along with brick planks that serve as door frames. This hallway leads through several antique pine doors to the bedroom, bathroom, and living room. Antique pine beams have been incorporated into the ceilings, complemented by original brickwork.
The living room, along with the kitchen, is the most frequently used room in the house, designed for large gatherings. The unique features of its walls, with their small niches, ceilings, and staircase, create a very special atmosphere. The owner drew inspiration from a music studio for the decor of this space. A small Moroccan table made of wood and metal sits in the center, next to a leather sofa and another made of wood and rattan, creating a space for conversation. An antique wooden threshing sledge covered with glass serves as a table alongside four stools, creating a small dining area that separates it from the kitchen.
The kitchen combines wooden cabinetry with a Carrara marble countertop. Oyster stone is used for the walls, and hydraulic tiles adorn the frieze above the countertop. An antique double-basin marble sink, adapted to fit the space, serves as the sink. Throughout this described space, taking advantage of the high ceilings, a wooden staircase leads to an upper level, where a small guest area has been designed. The lighting in the different areas consists of iron wall sconces made by the owner, featuring messages written in Arabic.
The master bedroom, like the other rooms in the house, is dominated by oyster stone and its hydraulic tile flooring. A large bed is positioned in the center, with a vintage table serving as a nightstand. A painting by the homeowner, depicting a diva, hangs on one of the walls.
The bathroom is also the owner's creation, featuring a striking marble sink resting on a rusted iron cabinet. Iron and marble are prominent materials, used to design the sanitary fixtures on the various shelves and to define the toilet area. All the walls are covered in hydraulic tiles with a Greco-Roman design border.
A wooden staircase leads to the upper level, where an original iron and glass door allows sunlight to flood in. A table crafted from iron and an antique door, along with a set of chairs, sits in the center of the terrace.
The entire space is enclosed by an iron railing with geometric designs made from ship parts.
Throughout the house, the owner has infused the design with his knowledge of art and history, his creativity, and his imagination, creating a truly unique space in the heart of Conil.
